Barriers to Sportsbook Adoption Identified

SOFTSWISS will host an online panel focused on the missed opportunities associated with not offering a sportsbook.

Global iGaming software provider SOFTSWISS held a LinkedIn Live panel discussion centered on the financial and strategic implications for casino operators that choose not to add a sportsbook to their offering.

The discussion explored whether the perceived barriers to sportsbook adoption are rooted in operational reality or are largely misconceptions that may be limiting potential revenue growth.

The panel, titled “Is Your Casino Missing Revenue? The Cost of Not Having a Sportsbook,” featured experts in esports betting, iGaming marketing, data analytics, and technology provision, who assessed both the challenges of sportsbook integration and the operational realities behind them.

The conversation addressed sportsbook operations, highlighting that trading, risk management, and live betting require a different skill set from casino products. However, the speakers noted that managed service models can significantly reduce operational complexity, allowing operators to outsource technical and trading functions while retaining control over their broader product strategy.

Audience strategy was another key topic. Panelists pointed out that there is often significant overlap between casino players and sports betting audiences, especially during major sporting events. Rather than building an entirely new audience from scratch, operators were encouraged to identify existing player interest in sports and activate that engagement more effectively.

Player monetization was also discussed. Experts examined the common assumption that sportsbook users may generate lower lifetime value than casino players. The panel suggested that, when properly integrated, sportsbooks can complement casino offerings and strengthen broader retention strategies, ultimately increasing long-term customer value.

Financial considerations were also reviewed, particularly concerns around margin volatility in sportsbook operations. While acknowledging that fluctuations are inevitable in betting markets, the speakers emphasized that modern risk management tools and structured pricing strategies can help operators maintain a stable and predictable business model.

The panel also addressed the issue of technical integration. Sportsbook implementation has traditionally been seen as a complex and resource-intensive process. However, advances in API-driven architecture and turnkey solutions have significantly streamlined the process, making integration more predictable and less labor-intensive for operators.

The discussion was moderated by Irene Kuznetsova, Head of Partnerships at SOFTSWISS Sportsbook, and featured Viktor Sekushenko, Head of Sales at SOFTSWISS Sportsbook; Tigran Sharafyan, Senior Business Development Manager at Oddin.gg; Niki Bonello Gio, Founder of Bambi Data; and Barb Tasci, Co-Founder of Revpanda.

Viktor Sekushenko, Head of Sales at SOFTSWISS Sportsbook, commented:

“What often looks like complexity or risk in sportsbook operations can become a real opportunity when approached in the right way and with the right partner.”

“We intentionally brought together this panel discussion so that each speaker could contribute a different perspective on the issue. Together, they cover the full reality of what sportsbook expansion actually involves. If you’ve never seriously considered launching a sportsbook, this recording may change your perspective, as it offers a practical checklist and step-by-step insights you can share with your team.”
